Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Hughes are the names synonymous with social networking, revolutionizing the way we connect. But what happens after you've developed the most successful social networking site on the planet? When you've made your millions? For Chris Hughes it was the challenge of becoming Barack Obama's online arm in the campaign of a lifetime. Now that's one techie I would definitely want on my side. in fact, Obama's online efforts have been credited with contributing to his November 2008 victory over John McCain. But this technology genius wants more and he's determined to do it with his new site, Jumo.
It;s not what you think, there will be no farmville or endless quizzes or updating your status, this project is aimed for the greater good. Hughes announced the launch of the non-profit new venture on his personal blog at chrishughes.tumblr.com. "There are no magic solutions to the challenges our world faces," Jumo.com says on its home page. "But there are millions of people around the globe who work each day to improve the lives of others," it says. "Unfortunately, there are millions more who don't know how to meaningfully help. "Jumo brings together everyday individuals and organizations to speed the pace of global change," it says. "We connect people to the issues, organizations, and individuals relevant to them to foster lasting relationships and meaningful action."
Now this is a story to start the day with. And, once again, taking a very simple concept and sky rocketing it into popularity is something Hughes has a master degree in. This brilliant concept is exactly what this world needs, with so much poverty around every corner, it's everyone's responsibility to get involved and assist where they can. I know this blogger will. So I take my hat off to you Hughes, this is going to be your best project yet.
