Paris, the City of Love - Must See Attractions

Paris is undoubtedly the world’s most popular city destination. Well informed, eloquent and oh-so-romantic , this city is a philosopher, a poet, a crooner. Nicknamed the city of love as well as the city of lights, every square inch of it seems to be seeping with history and beauty. The only drawback to this city is the daunting task of figuring out where to go and what to see. It’s must see attractions list, is a must figure out priority before embarking on all experiences Paris.

More than any other landmark, the Eiffel Tower is one of those attractions. It has come to represent an elegant and contemporary Paris. This iron tower was built for the 1889 World Exposition by Gustave Eiffel and was wildly unpopular with Parisians when it was unveiled and was almost torn down. Since then, it has attracted over 220 million visitors and it is hard to imagine Paris without it.

Another on the essentials list is the Louvre, to learn the Louvre inside and out, you might actually need a lifetime. It is the site of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of pre-20th century painting, sculpture and decorative objects and is often referred to as one of Paris’s best attractions. The palace itself is testament to a rich history spanning from the medieval period to the present.

If you’re on a Paris walking tour, walking over the bridge from the Louvre to the Musee d’Orsay is highly recommended and see the figurative bridge between classical and modern art. Housing the world's most important collection of impressionist and post-impressionist painting, the Musee d'Orsay's light, airy rooms whir you through three floors of modern wonders, from Degas' ethereal dancers to Monet's water lilies, all the way to Gaugin's leafy jungles. There are also major works by Van Gogh, Delacroix and Manet.

The 164 foot Arc de Triomphe commissioned by Emperor Napoleon evokes sheer military power and triumph. It was built in an age when leaders erected monuments in their own honour. The arch’s beautiful sculptures and reliefs commemorate Napoleons generals and soldiers. Visiting the Arc de Triomphe when on a Paris walking tour is a great way to begin or culminate a walk down the equally grandiose Avenue de Champs-Elysees. You won’t help but feel grand yourself.

Paris is a Mecca for artists, writers and everyday individuals looking to spark their creative side. Hummba has been inspired by this city and has created an extensive range of audio guides.
